Assistant Professor of Medicine

Research Summary
My research focuses on evaluating cancer prevention agents and identifying surrogate tumor markers for use in targeted clinical chemoprevention. I have ongoing translational, patient-oriented projects, in which I am investigating Barrett’s Esophagus and African-American Breast Cancer.

Research Activities
Chemoprevention is the area of cancer prevention in which pharmacological or biological agents are used to inhibit, delay or reverse carcinogenesis. Using human cancer cell lines, I am studying the anticancer effects of several candidate chemoprevention agents, including NSAID derivatives and natural compounds. I am also conducting studies of surrogate tumor biomarkers in these cells and in patient specimens to validate their use as intermediate endpoints in clinical chemoprevention trials. I am currently conducting these studies in models of Barrett’s Esophagus and African-American Breast Cancer.
